Body piercing is performed with anesthesia and is a rather quick procedure. Dr. Novoa cleanses the site with an antiseptic, then a local anesthetic is applied to numb the site. He then proceeds to connect the piece of jewelry to the end of a twelve gauge to sixteen gauge hollow needle and threads the needle through the site to be pierced.
